Troop 513 was originally chartered in September of 1969 with the chartered organization being First Baptist Church of Sugar Hill, GA. The scoutmaster was Jack Bramblett. The Troop produced two Eagle Scouts. The original Troop disbanded some time in the mid 70?s.
In November of 2004, four Webelos leaders in Cub Scout Pack 513 met and decided to rekindle Troop 513 again, once the cub scouts in their dens were ready to crossover in the spring of 2005. This was done successfully and the first Troop meeting was held on March 21, 2005. New scouts joined and Webelos scouts from other Packs joined as well. First Baptist Church of Sugar Hill once again agreed to sponsor the Troop as the Chartered Organization. We think it is neat that the Troop was rekindled with the same original troop number and chartered organization as it was some 35 years ago.
Today, Troop 513 meets weekly at First Baptist Church Sugar Hill (aka Sugar Hill Church). The troop is made up of several patrols. Troop 513 has produced over 65 Eagle Scouts since our 2005 charter. We are fortunate to have active and involved scoutmasters and troop committee members, as well as the support of our chartered organization.
ACTIVITIES & EVENTS
You cannot have Scouting without outing, therefore our troop goes on outdoor activites each month. Usually, this is a weekend campout where scouts can learn and practice scouting skills, have fun, and work towards advancement in the scouting program.
In everything we do, safety comes first. We want scouts to do three things:
- be safe,
- learn scouting and life skills,
- have fun.
We strive to accomplish these in all of our activities.
In addition to our monthly outings, we participate in summer camp at our council reservation, Camp Rainey Mountain. This is a week long trip that gives scouts an excellent opportunity to advance in rank and earn merit badges in an outdoor setting. Both scouts and leaders alike benefit from a week at summer camp each year. Our troop is a Scout led troop. Therefore, twice each year the PLC holds a program planning conference. Each activity and event is approved by the troop committee and then placed on the troop calendar. These activities are discussed and planned at the monthly PLC meetings and carried out using the patrol method. We are proud to say our troop provides an outdoor program that far exceeds BSA recommendations.
